Film: The Devil Inside

Year: 2012

Director: William Brent Bell

Writer: William Brent Bell and Matthew Peterman

Starring: Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth

This film begins with a 911 call, where a woman is telling the police she has killed everyone at her home, the woman is played by Suzan Crowley. We then cut to police investigation footage, then news broadcasts about it and then we finally meet her daughter, who is played by Fernanda Andrade. She is telling how her mother was such a great woman, but then she changed and then she did the murders.

We follow her to Italy to visit her mother and see if she is possible possessed. Andrade goes to the exorcist school there were she sits in on a class. There she sees a video of someone who is possible possessed. There are two priests who believe she is, one is a doctor played by Evan Helmuth, the other is an actually ordained exorcist, played by Simon Quarterman.

After having lunch with the class, she visits her mother. She has little crosses carved into her arm, she doesn’t recognize her daughter, but she does know something about her that is impossible to know. She then screams wildly, causing Andrade to leave.

She lets Helmuth and Quarterman review the tape and they find it inconclusive at that point. She does go to see an exorcism that is illegally done by the two; it is the woman she saw from the tape in class. After seeing them save her, Andrade gets them to visit her mother.

Is her mother possessed? Will they be able to help her or is what is inside of her much too strong?

I saw a lot of people gave this film a bad rap. I came in thinking it was going to horrible and I was surprised. I didn’t think this film was all that bad. I am personally get sick of seeing the ‘documentary’ style, because I think it is becoming overplayed, but with that said, this one isn’t all that bad. The exorcism scenes are creepy and done in a believable way. The fear of demons that they can take over anyone at anytime is creepy and helps this film.

If you like the style of this film or are into exorcism movies, I would watch this one. The acting is good enough, the story is open ended, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I would say come in open minded and give this one a chance, I happened to really enjoy it.
