Film: The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (Luftslottet som sprängdes)

Year: 2009

Director: Daniel Alfredson

Writer: Ulf Ryberg

Starring: Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace and Lena Endre

This film begins where the last one left off. The girl, played by Noomi Rapace, is being life-lifted to a hospital. She has been shot 3 times and is covered in blood from the beating she received. The large man who she had been pursuing, that turns out to be her brother, has escaped and killed two police officers.

Rapace is taken to the same hospital as her father and they both have survived the ordeal. A young doctor takes a liking to Rapace and he protects her. Rapace’s father talks to someone who was part of the secret group he has worked for. When he doesn’t receive the deal he thinks he should get, he laughs and blackmails them.

The elder members of the group decide they need to take care of the problem, in killing Rapace’s father.

The journalist, played by Michael Nyqvist, has convinced his sister, who is a lawyer, to take on Rapace’s case. She is visiting her during the attack and actually saves her life with quick thinking.

During this, Nyqvist decides to write an article about Rapace, about the group who is trying to silence her and those involved. A group of police officers who are on the case approach him to bust it up as well.

Can Rapace prove she is competent before she is locked away again in a mental hospital? Can Nyqvist bust open the secret organization and bring them down? Will both of them survive long enough to bring justice to this saga?

This film doesn’t disappoint again. All the actors are back, so you’ll get what you’ve got from the previous two, but the major thing is the story. For the third part in a twisted mystery series, this one has just as horrible a story as the other two and it makes for great entertainment, this time were Rapace is trying to clear herself for good.

Seeing how powerful the secret group is and the resources they employ is also scary, but it is good to see that some investigating and a little computer hacking can help them find the truth. Having to deal with this ordeal and trying to clear your name for things you didn’t do is a scary thing. That is why this is being added to the horror film research.

If you like the other two, you will enjoy this one. As I said, it will not disappoint as the acting is once again amazing, the story is solid, thoroughly entertaining and worth a view.
